In an affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court, the Centre maintained its Rs 8 lakh per annum income criterion for establishing the Economically Weaker Section quota for this year. For continued admission to NEET-PG courses, the central government has opted to keep to the present criterion. On January 6, 2022, the Supreme Court will hear the NEET-PG admissions issue. The Centre filed the affidavit in response to the Expert Committee's recommendations made in December 2021. The Centre maintained in the affidavit that sticking with the present EWS criterion is better since altering it in the middle of the process might bring extra issues. The Committee has suggested the Centre to maintain the same Rs. 8 lakh income thresholds for evaluating EWS eligibility. Meanwhile, after talks with Delhi Police authorities and the Centre, resident physicians in Delhi have agreed to call off their protest.
FORDA made three demands: a guaranteed date for NEET-PG counselling, an apology from authorities, and the cancellation of FIRs filed against protesting physicians. These demonstrations have become a hot subject across the country, with resident physicians in Delhi boycotting all services owing to long wait times for counselling. Due to the upcoming Supreme Court case, NEET-UG and NEET-PG counselling has been postponed as well.
